Applications

Any situation where water must be discharged from any external wall built from brick, block or stonework of 100mm or more in thickness e.g.:

  • at ground level floor slab level
  • within cavity tray and other DPC systems
  • over external lintels
  • where a cavity must be ventilated.

Technical Information

  • 1143 wall weep vents provide a free airflow area of 165mm² per unit
  • DV1, DV2 and DV3 retro fit weeps/drill vents provide a free airflow area of 198mm² per unit
  • NHBC recommends that wall weeps should be spaced at 450mm centres above openings and at least two weep holes per opening
  • Wall weeps should be spaced at 900mm centres for horizontal cavity trays
  • Timloc Interloc horizontal trays require one weep hole per tray

How to Calculate Quantities and Order

TW1 and 1143

  • Divide the overall length of the cavity tray system, DPC run by 900mm or external lintel by 450mm (round up to the nearest whole number)
  • Openings/Lintels require a minimum of two weeps
  • Check that the external wall thickness is a standard 100mm block or 102.5mm brick thickness – if not please state the wall thickness with your enquiry or order
  • Please state your required colour

DV1, DV2 and DV3

  • To be evenly spaced at recommended 1200mm (maximum 1500mm) centres to vent full external, cavities to present moisture build up
  • Calculate the quantity required based on your application

Installation Advice

Wall weeps should be:

  • used where water could collect inside a cavity wall, e.g. over external lintels or wherever a cavity tray or DPC system is installed
  • placed directly on top of the DPC or cavity tray system or on the front flange of the external lintel
  • spaced at 450mm centres to comply with NHBC recommendations for above openings.

Care should be taken to ensure that wall weeps are kept clear of mortar and do not become blocked:

  • particularly at the back of the weep which could become blocked by mortar droppings from above.

DV1, DV2 and DV3

  • To be evenly spaced at recommended 1200mm (maximum 1500mm) centres to vent full external,  cavities to present moisture build up
  •  High level retrospective/refurbishment cavity weeps/drill vents to be located externally 200-225mm below the soffit or roof barge
  •  Low level retrospective/refurbishment cavity weeps/drill vents should be installed at a minimum of 125mm below the DPC at ground level.  At this level it doubles as a drain or the cavity as well as a ventilator
