Thermo-loc Platinum EPS is the Cavity Closer with the can-do attitude.

This one-piece solution is suitable to close a range of cavity widths at external doors and window jambs to provide thermal insulation and prevent damp and cold bridging.

The multi width profiles have been specifically designed to enable merchants and stockists to hold two sizes only, which can be quickly and easily trimmed on site to suit a variety of cavity width requirements.

Technical Information/ Considerations +

  • BRE Document ‘Thermal insulation: avoiding risks’ stipulate: “When a window or a door frame is set back behind the inner face of a dense outer masonry leaf, it should overlap an insulated Cavity Closer by a minimum of 30mm for BRE exposure zones Sheltered to Severe; but fully rebated (check reveals) for zones Very Severe”
  • With reference to insulation, the products in this range do not use, contain or produce Urea Formaldehyde, CFCs, i.e. HCFCs & HFAs. They have an Ozone Depletion Potential of zero, Global Warming Potential of less than 5 and complies with BS EN 13163
  • Thermal conductivity of 0.031W/mk
  • Exceeds the minimum thermal resistance path of 0.45m²k /w stipulated in accredited construction detail

Installation Advice +

  • The accredited construction detail published by DCLG require a minimum overlap of 30mm between the window frame and cavity closer
  • Can be used in second fix applications
  • Simply cut the Cavity Closer to the required length, allowing the jamb section to overlap the sill section by cutting away parts of the fixing flange and to butt the underside of the lintel
  • For second fix applications, push the Cavity Closer into the open side of the cavity after building work is complete. The compressible nature of the exposed insulation is used to create a friction fit into the cavity, alternatively the insulation can be trimmed to fit using a sharp knife
  • Fixing nails or grab adhesive to the flanges are recommended to ensure a secure fit
  • Cavity insulation to butt tightly to the cavity closer
  • Joining ‘off cut’ sections should be kept to a minimum and not carried out to sill sections. Insulation should be extended from the lower closer profile to allow this to slot into the upper profile to maintain a rigid section. All overlaps should be sealed with tape

How to order +

  • Establish the cavity width and select the correct multi Cavity Closer width (50mm – 100mm or 100mm – 150mm) to ensure that the cavity can be closed
  • In jamb and sill applications, first estimate the total length of the Cavity Closer required, then order the correct number of individual 2.4 metre lengths, so that there are no join pieces
